I met Zach by chance. He was walking very slowly with a cane in a very busy mall. He reminded me so much of my son Chayce with his big smile and kind eyes - I had to ask him what caused his condition, though I suspected the answer;
Zach Otto was an 18 year old energetic, vivacious typical young man. He was very active, and happily moving in to adulthood, until he sprained his ankle. He was treated by a doctor for the sprained ankle - and at the same time convinced he should get up to date with his vaccines. Not understanding the risks, and not being given the risk disclaimers that accompanied the vaccines - he allowed them to administer them.
He then caught a severe cold which ended up with a bacterial infection - including high fever, congestion, etc. He went back to the doctor for that - and they went ahead and gave him additional vaccines.
His life has never been the same. He began having global muscular weakness, tremors, lack of appetite, dizziness, headaches, and an overall decline in his health. Sound familiar?
He has been seen by a multitude of doctors, from rheumatology, neurology, internal medicine, infectious disease, orthopedic, physical therapy, occupational therapy, hematology, etc. Nobody has been able to sort out his condition. Everyone passes him around to the next person because they just don't know. Some doctors have even ridiculed him. Just like my son Chayce - he tries hard to get well, and to participate in his own health. But as soon as he gets a common cold or stamach virus - he is knocked backwards and declines even further due to his immune system.
Now at 20, Zach weighs 114. He suffers from chronic and debilitating fevers, headaches, and neuropathy in his legs. They are outfitting his car with gear that allows him to drive with his hands instead of his feet. In PT, they will assess what type of walking aids he needs now.
I have decided to help Zach with all of my resources and remedies as I just cannot sit idly by and observe his decline without helping in every way I can.
I am trying to get Zach evaluated at one of the two best hospitals in the USA for neurology; the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, NY or Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore. This will be very costly. But I also want to help with his quality of life right now by seeing to it that he has gets the aids he needs to walk, drive, and just function daily when he's alone. He lives with his mother Jennifer Otto who works full-time as a school teacher - enough said.
If you met Zach - like I did - you would see those kind eyes, and that sweet spirit. You would see a struggling young man who would give anything to be healthy again, to not have to walk with a cane anymore, and who would not be in constant fear of ending up in a wheelchair.
Zach refuses help when he walks in to his doctor appointments. He is invested in getting well - and does not want to burden anyone with his situation.
He is NO burden to me...Together we can get him the medical diagnosis and care he needs.
Any amount will help. Thank you!
