Zambia Anchor Orphanage: Tomato Production

Hi, I’m Amy,
In 2016 I had the blessing of spending 3 months at an orphanage called "Anchor Orphanage" in Zambia Africa. I saw firsthand the poverty and need and fell in love with the local people, to this day I consider them my family. Since then, I have been in constant communication and with the help of others organized funds for them to support their projects.
Anchor Orphanage is a non-profit organization that co-exists with a school, in the Central Province of Zambia. With a passion to help their Zambian people, as they saw the devastating impact of HIV/AID’s in the rural communities. The orphanage and school are on 25 hectares of land suitable for crop production. The land lies on the banks of a large body of water, sufficient to supply water for irrigation all year round. However, this land has been underutilized due to limited resources.
To help them become more sustainable, their aspiration is to develop at least one hectare of land with appropriate fencing and the right irrigation material (Drip Irrigation) for tomato production. Their aim is to produce enough for the orphanage and some for commercial purposes. Tomatoes are one of the crops that are consistently in high demand in their country and based on their research a higher financial reward than other crops. The orphanage’s staff have carried out sufficient training and research on tomato production and have the capability to manage a successful production.
They extend their humble request for you to consider supporting this noble cause. The funds will assist with all necessary equipment for the initial production. The benefits to the institution of self-reliance from your contribution could not be overemphasized. “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.
