Ollies Army

Hi us as a local firestation in Carrickfergus are doing this go fund me to support ollies family as they go on this hard difficult journey. As a firestation we are going to take part in the storm the castle 10k run in ( fire kit) to raise as much as we can for this family! Please can we come together as a community and show all our support!

This is ollies story so far:

23/05/2023

We took Ollie to A&E as he had a lot of harsh looking bruises. Ollie received a blood test and within a couple of hours, we were informed that the result of this was highly likely, Leukemia.

25/05/2023

Ollie received more tests, and scans. It was then confirmed that Ollie had Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a rare form of Leukemia. We were told Ollie would need intensive chemotherapy straightaway for the next 6-9months.

Following his diagnosis, we were allowed home for the weekend to enjoy some family time before the nightmare would begin.

28/05/2023

Ollie was admitted for Royal Children's Hospital for a long stay. Ollie received a platelet transfusion straight away. Fluids were given immediately via a drip, alongside oral medicine (Ollie is not a fan of these).

30/05/2023

Ollie had to go to theatre, under anaesthetic, to have a bone marrow biopsy, a lumbar puncture and to have his central line fitted in his chest. This central line administers the chemotherapy which Ollie needs. Ollie is not a fan of needles, so this makes everything easier for all of us. Ollie was so brave (braver than mummy). Everything went well and the consultants were happy with the procedures. Being in recovery took a little longer than expected as Ollies’ heart rate was a little too low. The extra time away from him felt like a lifetime.

Ollies’ Chemo began today.

We also received the results from his lumbar puncture… Unfortunately, they confirmed that there are some Leukemia cells in his spinal fluid. This means, more lumbar punctures, 2-3 times per week until that specific area is clear from the Leukemia cells.

01/06/2023

Ollie had his 2nd lumbar puncture.

Ollie had his 2nd day of chemotherapy.

Ollie is still feeling fit and well. He is still his usual, cheeky chappy self. He is coping so well so far. His appetite comes and goes but he can still manage to inhale a cheesy chip from the chippy. Long may it continue.
