In 2007 I asked myself what I would do if I wasn’t afraid? It was then I decided to leave the US to relocate to my ancestral home Sierra Leone.I then founded EXCEL Sierra Leone to contrbute to national development through education.
EXCEL seeks to pioneer the transformation of the education system in Sierra Leone in order to develop a culture of academic excellence. This transformation would focus on empowering the next generation to become leaders, creatives, innovators, thinkers, and change-makers who are not only inspired but in action to re-define Sierra Leone.
In the wake of the Ebola crisis EXCEL Sierra Leone has been providing programming focused on children and youth affected by Ebola, and aimed at bridging their development gap, by supporting their academic needs and psychosocial wellbeing. EXCEL is on mission to ensure Ebola does not define the future of our children and youth by investing in their success beyond circumstance.
We need your help
We will hold our first fundrasing event on November 14th 2015. Our goal is to raise $8000 for our youth resilence program. Many people outside of Sierra Leone have been asking how they can help. Tickets are $50 however we are grateful for any amount donated.
Donations will benefit EXCEL Sierra Leone’s youth program EXCEL Education. EXCEL Education is a 10 month program that will support the educational development of 50 youth. EXCEL Education provides senior secondary students with scholarships, supplementary education activities, psychosocial support, and support services alongside a normal academic schedule. Our aim is to aid and empower students in building resilience and academic excellence, while building character, leadership skills and community spirit. Our target group-Sr. secondary school students affected by Ebola (i.e orphans, survivors, quarantined youth, youth leaders from12-20 yrs). EXCEL is my dream. Sierra Leone is a small beautiful country that is in the process of recovery. I am passtionate about developing our most coveted assest; our youth the future of this nation.
