I never imagined that I would be having to do a go fund me to try and raise money for my Auntie, Mandy, to be able to try to live like a normal person again. The devastation that has caused the family is indescribable.
Mandy initially went into hospital for suspected appendicitis but it turned out to be a kidney stone which turned into sepsis. Things turned from bad to worse when she started suffering organ failure and the sepsis turned into septic shock. We all feared the worse when she was in an induced coma for over 2 weeks. We were told to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Imagine the shock that rippled through us.
Mandy, happy go lucky, mother & grandmother, businesswoman, healthy and working full time, now in her induced coma at deaths door.
When Mandy came round after her sedation the family were ecstatic that she was still alive and so was she... however, then came the devastating news that the doctors had to tell her that her hands and feet had suffered so badly that all were to be amputated. I am not sure really how she coped with that news but she managed to smile through it. She has also been left profoundly deaf, suspected to be because of the drugs used to save her life..
We are desperate as a family to try and give Mandy the most support when she comes home. At the moment she can do absolutely nothing for herself which must be so incredibly difficult to handle. If you can even just donate £1 we will be eternally grateful for your support.
Mandy had a very normal life before this and was fiercely independent. She loved to walk the dog, see her family and friends, take her grandchildren swimming and on day trips, go bike riding and just live a very active life in general.
We would love to be able to see Mandy receive some support in the home at first with any funds raised to help pay for adaptations and items that she would need to be independent.
Mandy is now on the mend and she is being as positive as possible. Thank you for taking the time to read Mandy’s story.
