Help Chrissy K. get into Remission

We sincerely appreciate your kind efforts to help us give back to one of the most generous, big-hearted, and well-informed cannabis activists we know... our bubbly, beautiful friend, Chrissy! You may have met her when she was a budtender, or as she led the Spokane chapter of NORML Women of WA. She’s been a tireless advocate for so many of us on our personal journeys to wellness, and now, we have an opportunity to concretely support her to get her into REMISSION!

Can you imagine never having a night out? A day off? A weekend away? Frustratingly, for the last 10 months, Chrissy has been homebound, unable to go to ANY social events/activities or restaurants. She is  unable to participate in activities of normal life outside the home, as she contends with about 20 symptoms a day... the worst of these being headaches/migraines, light, noise, temperature intolerance, nerve pain, and severe stomach issues (she is able to eat fewer than 10 foods at this point).

As a child, Chrissy was infected with Lyme Disease, which slowly started targeting her immune system, causing her to suffer from colds/flu & strep throat for 7 years in a row. Each year, another symptom began to plague her until she found herself in her early 30's with more than 30 symptoms, the worst being difficulty walking and short term memory loss. Her 5 specialists just kept giving her more meds instead of seeking the root cause. Meanwhile, the Lyme bacteria was thriving and multiplying, taking over her body. In 2008, her mom paid out-of-pocket for her to go to an out-of-state specialist who diagnosed Chrissy with Chronic Lyme and Co-infections. It took years before she could find good doctors and could commit to the expensive treatment not covered by insurance. She was nearly in remission when her mom, who had been her best friend and biggest supporter, passed away. It wasn't until Chrissy’s symptoms increased drastically that she finally understood it was time to take care of herself, no matter the cost.

In these last, few years, these chronic illnesses have wreaked a lot of havoc and confusion within her body – she’s struggling to treat over ten, distinct conditions stemming from Lyme’s complications. Currently Chrissy is treating Chronic Lyme Disease and co-infections, which is Lyme, Babesia (Parasites attacking the brain), 4 kinds of molds, Epstein Barr, Chronic Fatigue, Fibro, Mycoplasma, Candida, Mast Cell Activation, and SIBO, a Stomach infection. She is being tested for a couple other possible infections, as well. Understandably, chronic Lyme Disease is very difficult to treat, especially as insurance does not cover most of it. A specialist and an intensive medication regimen have become critical now, and insurance covers only about 5% of the requ ired treatment. This leaves Chrissy contemplating a staggering $1000-$2000+ a month out-of-pocket for the next, couple years! Her antibiotics have to be changed continually, as those spirochetes are tenacious and resourceful, hiding and building immunities to each drug; hence, the need for variation. It is insanely hard to know when and how to do that, all the while supporting the body as it copes with side effects and drug interactions, and with the neurotoxins the spirochetes excrete as they die. This is why her body is taking so long to heal-years of damage, combined with many years of poor treatment and devastatingly stealthy microbial attacks.

Chrissy's LLMD (Lyme Literate Doctor) recently referred her to see one of the top U.S specialists, as her case is so severe. She began new treatment last month, and this doctor gave her some real hope... Remission IS possible! It is just going to take some time to piece together the puzzle of all the various issues, side effects, and setbacks. It will take a few years to heal, but improvement could be seen fairly soon! Unfortunately, a fighting chance at that remission is partly dependent on financial resources, and this is where we can help make the most concrete difference for Chrissy! Let's give back to this amazing woman warrior who has done so much to help us fight our own battles with illness and pain.

Let’s work together to help her experience more of this wonderful life. A life most of us take for granted each day! Thank you all for ANY help you can give.
