HELP FOR SHAGGY
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Carlos Garcia. I live in Chicago with my wife and our dog, Shaggy along with the company of assorted Grandchildren. On Monday, June 21st. my wife and I and our 2 year old Granddaughter, Elaine were sitting on the front porch with Shaggy as we often do on warm summer nights. At about 10:00pm that night, my wife and Elaine left to care for my mother in law who’s having the onset of Alzheimer’s. I went into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water leaving Shaggy on the porch. He’s over 10 years old and never leaves the front porch favoring the steps leading up to our home. In the time I went to get the water (less than a minute), Shaggy was snatched off of the porch by a Pit-bull (1 of 2) owned by a tenant in the building next door. I was alerted by the loud screams and yelling as the owner, a 25 year old female could absolutely not control her dogs. One of them circled as I ran to the porch to see Shaggy in the mouth of the larger dog. The owner was “saddled” on her dog pulling on his leash but the dog had Shaggy locked in a death grip by his neck and refused to obey any commands. I was running on pure adrenaline as I beat and kicked the attacking dog as hard as I could for as long as I could to no avail. He wasn’t letting go. It turned into a “tug of war” between myself and the dog. I was terrified that I was next if he let my dog go, but I kept punching and fighting till he seemed to loosen his grip for a moment and I then literally tore my dog from his teeth, shaking and bleeding. I suffered some bites and many scrapes during the ordeal. We both ended up in the Emergency room. Shaggy had emergency surgery till about 6:30am the next day. I was released the next morning. We made it home but unfortunately Shaggy has complications as the tissue around his deep wounds began to die. He was returned to the pet hospital for more surgery this morning. The owner of the two pit-bulls refused to open the door for Police or Animal Control agents and has since abandoned her apartment with no notice. I’m left to deal with the grief and the ever-climbing bills to try to save my best friend not to mention my own injuries. I have considered having him put to sleep as the Doctor says it’s going to be a long recovery process and could get more expensive but he’s asked me to let him do his best for our beloved Shaggy. If there are no more set-backs, he may be able to save him.
I decided to put together this GoFund me account to help with the financial stress that we are now under and to give Shaggy his best chance for a complete, although scarred recovery. He is a big part of our family and we appreciate any help we can get. Prayers of course are highly appreciated, so don’t stop praying. Thank you kindly.
