Don't let me die.

Robbie Davies is my best friend whom I have cared for full time for over 21 years. He was born in 1973 with cerebral palsy quadriplegia. Over 15 years ago the pain in his hips became so unbarable that he could no longer sleep in a bed. So for over 15 years he has literally slept and lived in his electric wheelchair. Now his spine is calcifying and starting to collapse. The arthritis in his hips is worsening and also have painful bone spurs.
At at the age of twelve his parents were advised to put him in a wheelchair and not bother with physio. He use to be able to independently roll over in a bed and 'bunny' hop on the floor. After 6 months he could do neither. So for 30 years he has wanted his legs removed. Now his situation is dire. In a few months time he will not even be able to sleep in his wheelchair. After that he will be doped up in a hospital as no one will be able to care for him and left to slowly die.
About three years ago we moved to Penrith, NSW, in the hope we could get help. We had previously lived in Darwin. It was my home for 38 years but the neglect and mistreatment of my friend by the medical system and service providers had us flee to NSW.
Nearly by three years has passed since we literally begged for help. No one will operate to perform a bilateral hip disarticulation. The removal of his entire legs. Some surgeons say it will make his condition worse but we know it won't and can show this. The doctors have never been right about Robbie and his needs. Never! And how can his condition get any worse? In a few months time he will be dead without the surgery.
At the moment Robbie and I are doing an indefinite sit-in under a bridge in front of a car park at Allen Place, 50 Station Street, Penrith. We set up tent on the 28th of June after a surgeon indicated that he would be quite happy for Robbie to suicide and me along with him in a few months time instead of breaking his Hippocratic Oath by allowing Robbie to have the disarticulation and cause more harm!!!
Fortunately, today, we were able to make an appointment for the 23rd of this month, July, to see Australia's leading orthopaedic surgeon for reassessment. Professor Al Muderis. We hope when he sees the terrible condition Robbie is now in he will be willing to either perform the surgery or find someone who will.
So I need to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the operation and associated costs. But this fund needs to be on going. With the help of the public we can raise the funds and not only free my friend from his pain and death sentence but also help others with cerebral palsy get appropriate help and not end up as severely handicapped as Robbie.
