Help Darrell Recover
On Saturday April 27 at about 3 in the afternoon Darrell was walking home with some groceries in Vernon, BC. Then something happened to him that resulted in a smashed in skull, seizures, bleeding and now a major brain injury. Some speculate he was attacked, others a fall. A good Samaritan found him and called for help. He had been found in very rough shape with his head onto the road. She lifted his head and protected him from the traffic while waiting for the ambulance. We are grateful for this kind stranger who pulled over to help. She and a few others are why he is alive right now. Darrell was taken to the Kelowna General Hospital were he was for a month after major head surgery and rehab. He was able to leave the hospital and was flown home to Ontario for continued care by family and outpatient rehab.
Darrell does not recall what happened, and we may never know why he had such a severe fall resulting in such a tragic brain injury. He continues to have trouble with memory, speech and is still is having trouble with mobility and with standing for lengths of time, bending up and down and suffers from dizziness.
Darrell moved to BC last fall to work as a welder in Kelowna. He is a fun loving guy who loves to go on adventures, hike, fish, sit around the campfire and enjoy time with friends and family. He is a gentle giant who loves to laugh, has a kind heart, and looks after his family. His hope was to be able to stay in BC.
At this time he won't be returning to work anytime soon. He has a rehabilitation to go through and will have to more then likely find a new career. We are asking for financial support to help remove the stress and burden that comes for a family when your loved one cannot work.
The support has already helped in getting him home and cover expenses while in the hospital. He will continue to need help covering his living expenses, travel expenses for appointments and upcoming medical expenses that won't be covered by benefits.
At this time we don't know how long Darrell will be off of work, but we are starting with a few months worth of expenses to be covered. Thank you in advance from his family and friends for your kindness, care, prayer and generosity.
