Zee and Al Edgell Memorial Scholarship

As dedicated educators and life-long learners, the value of education is a meaningful part of the legacies of Zee and Al Edgell. A few years ago we seeded this fund with monies from our own family, and many friends and loved ones have helped us grow the amount we can use to support students in Belize.

 

As of the academic year 2024-25, we have awarded one scholarship, which will cover tuition, fees and books for a student at Saint Catherine Academy.

In the spirit of transparency, it's been a challenge to manage this program from afar. And, even with news media reports and personal outreach via social media, applications were slow to come in.

In 2024, The Rotary Club of Belize Sunrise agreed to add the scholarship to the education programs it administers. And, at last, we were able to spend some of this money! (See updates section).

We hope that, in awarding this first scholarship, more students will apply next year. We are looking forward to continuing Zee and Al’s legacies by increasing the educational opportunities for students in Belize.
