HM3 Christopher "Bobby" Gnem Memorial Scholarship
Donation protected
On July 30th 2020 a tragic accident cost the lives of 8 Marines and 1 Sailor when their amphibious assault vehicle (AAV) sank off the coast of California. Bobby was the one sailor (corpsman) affectionately known by Marines as Doc aboard that AAV.
Bobby selflessly devoted himself to a career with a higher calling, to provide aid, care for, and share the danger with the Marines in his charge. This selflessness and immense character led Bobby in his final moments to put the care of his Marines before himself and make the ultimate sacrifice.
This character of Bobby's was on display much sooner in life than just in his service as a Navy Corpsman. Stories of his role as a teammate and friend to the many he knew and loved at Lincoln High School continue to affirm the man we knew him to be. It is in his honor and his legacy that the family of Bobby would like to help the students of Bobby's high school by providing a scholarship to a high school senior who embodies the drive to improve the community and those around them as Bobby was known for.
The goal is to award a scholarship of $3,000 to a deserving student at the Stockton California high school. Any additional money raised will be used to fund 2nd and 3rd place scholarships and possibly future years' awards. Every dollar contributed will go directly to the scholarship fund that has an account hosted with the school district.
For those who want to contribute larger amounts and have it be tax deductible, please get in touch with me (GySgt McGrortyHunter) through here or on social media and I can work with you to route donations directly to the school account to ensure that you recieve that tax benefit. Thank you for considering and for helping in this effort.
