We are Joel and Tracy Murphy, and we met by chance on Myspace nine years ago. It seems only natural, then, for us to use social media to assist us in this next chapter of our lives. We fell in love and married in 2010. This October we will celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary, and had excitedly hoped to start a family by now.
After two years of unsuccessful attempts, we consulted a fertility specialist. Test results came back positive for our ability to get pregnant. We tried Clomid, a medication that helps produce eggs, with no luck. We decided to relax and let nature take its course and, sure enough, it did! After years of trying, we were pregnant! Our joy turned quickly to sorrow when this ectopic pregnancy had to be removed – as well as my left fallopian tube. Crushed doesn’t even come close to describing our emotions at that time. We still had hope, though, especially after our doctors concluded that the right tube was functioning normally. Amazingly, five days before my 30th birthday, we found out we were expecting again… Excitement soon turned to sadness when this pregnancy, too, was ectopic and caused us to again lose the baby along with my right tube. Joel and I were devastated.
It has taken us almost a year to recover, and we have decided that we want to pursue in vitro fertilization. After sometimes heart-wrenching conversations with each other and several meetings with our fertility specialist, Dr. James, we are going forward with our plan to have a family. Our doctor feels we have a 75% chance of successful IVF! Each round of IVF will cost upwards of $24,000, however. That’s where y’all come in. We are asking family, friends and anyone willing to provide whatever financial assistance you can provide. Please help us reach our dream of building our family!
