Help wildlife thrive at Whitemoor plot 128

Donation protected
Hi, My name’s Nathalie, and I'm a member of the volunteer Wildlife Group fundraising for Whitemoor Gardenholders Cooperative Society (WGCS) wildlife plot.

Our goal

2 years ago we raised £449 to get a large amount of rubbish removed from a misused allotment plot. We wanted to create a space for nature.

We have much bigger plans for wildlife this year but we need your help to raise £1,000.

Your donation will help us create new habitats for birds, bats, dragonflies, newts, wood mice, frogs and more

Are you an allotment holder, keen gardener or wildlife champion, part of the local community, or a business looking to help a green project? You could make a difference!.

Our volunteer wildlife group aim to showcase how allotment tenants and the local community can make outdoor spaces more wildlife friendly. We want to transform the plot into a wildlife haven to complement the neighbouring River Leen Greenway, with different habitats, starting with a pond and bog garden.

  • Pond liner (£576)
  • Pond plants, baskets and compost (£230)
  • Trees and shrubs (£165)
  • Plants and seeds (£170)
  • Bird boxes, bat boxes and insect hotels (£460)
  • Natural stone (£350)

We want this wild space to connect people with nature, boost the sense of community on the allotment site, and be an educational focal point for our public open days.

About the site

Whitemoor is a 17 acre site (143 plots) leased to us by Nottingham City Council. Our purpose is to sustainably manage and regenerate the land for the benefit of our community and generations to come.

We have a diverse membership at Whitemoor Allotments, including a plot run by a local school. Nottingham Organic Gardeners have a demonstration garden here. We hold events for tenants and their families and friends, and an annual open day for the public.

Pat Gordon, allotment committee member said: "More and more wildlife habitats are being destroyed so whatever you can do to help will always be beneficial for wildlife. One of the most important things about an allotment site is actually the social aspect to it and we’ve even had social nights down here, we come and have a chat. This space gives people a stake in the plot and I think that sense of belonging and achievement is very important to people."

Please donate if you can. Thank you!
