My grandfathers funeral

Hi folks. A few weeks ago we lost our grandfather Sidney. A 94 year old cockney who loved and lived his life to the fullest. 

When this happened we as a family believed he had all the cover needed from his time in the Army, 15 years to be precise. Stationed in Singapore he served in India, Burma and was involved in the infamous liberation of Changi jail. It turned out that the policies were not worth anything and despite our best efforts the policies led to nothing.

Talking to the funeral directors it became apparent that we as a family could not afford the costs of a basic, bog standard funeral for someone who was anything but. 

To intern the grave where my Grandmother, Sids wife rests in £1098. We cannot proceed with burying him until we pay this...we just don’t have it! The remaining bill brings the total cost to £3678. We as a family simply cannot afford this so have reached out to the DWP who will not look at our case for at least 6 weeks. We reached out to the Royal British Legion who cannot give us a decision on funding until the DWP have given us their decision...again, a minimum of 6 weeks for a potential ‘No’. This lack of decision and funding has led to us postponing the funeral once already...he remains in the chapel of rest unable to rest in peace.

We have no estate or pots of gold hidden away and a valuable lesson has been learned from this horrendous experience. Please check on your cover for your loved ones. Please.

I hate the idea of doing this....it feels like we are begging but our hero, our grandfather lays there and has done for weeks now waiting for us to lay him to rest with Della, his wife, our grandmother. 

Please help. Anything will help. Thank you
