Miss Winslow's Field Trips!

My name is Megan Winslow and I'm a  hard working 2nd grade teacher in Santa Clara, California.  I teach at a Title I school, which means that most of the families at my school are living at or below poverty level.  Despite the struggles, I love what I do!

The 2nd grade teachers at my school work hard every year to take our students on as many field trips as possible, but it's a struggle to raise the funds.  We believe field trips are a critical part of a child's schooling.  They provide children with real hands-on experiences that our students with limited means could not otherwise be exposed to.  Field trips take learning to a higher level of understanding that I could never replicate in the classroom - even in my best lessons.  How else can a child truly understand what tide pools are like unless they explore one? 

We have big dreams this year!  The 2nd grade team would love to take our classes to the tide pools, a farm, a history museum, a play, an art museum, the redwoods and a garden.  We know our students would be better readers, writers and overall thinkers with these new experiences (many of our students have never even seen the ocean, and we only live 45 minutes away!).  

ANY amount given would be beyond appreciated.  $5 pays for one child to get into the art museum, $10 also helps cover the bus.  It ALL helps and is one less dollar that a family has to scrape together.
