Funds for Parker

I am the best friend of Parker’s mom, Katie. Parker had been having headaches for a few days with multiple negative COVID tests. On Saturday, September 10, his mom brought him to be tested for strep. The strep test was also negative. The Urgent Care doctor recommended going to the emergency room for an MRI due to his headaches, sleepiness, vomiting, and NF1(a genetic disorder).

The MRI showed lesions and fluid buildup on his brain. Parker was transported by ambulance to Children’s of Minneapolis. On September 11, Parker had an EVD drainage tube placed to help drain spinal fluid and relieve pressure. Due to the nurse strike, brain surgery was delayed to September 21. The surgery was a success and the tumor was sent to pathology. A few days later, the family learned the tumor was a Germinoma brain tumor, which is a form of cancer.

After surgery, Parker was still experiencing headaches. A CT scan was ordered which showed enlarged ventricles and more fluid buildup. The natural flow of spinal fluid had not been reestablished. On September 29, he had another surgery and a VP shunt was placed. The shunt will help drain the fluid from the brain. Parker finally began to have relief from his headaches.

Parker and his family are still in the hospital and have a long road ahead of them. Parker’s treatment plan includes both chemo at Children’s and proton radiation at the Mayo Clinic.
