Purpose: The purpose of the Ziggy Dog Fund is to help support shelter dogs medically, socially, and behaviorally so they can become ready for adoption. The fund’s goal is to help reduce the number of pitbulls in shelters.
Ziggy Dog Fund History: My husband, Casey Nice, and I lost our beloved pit bull Ziggy, a little over a year ago and miss him every day. In Ziggy’s honor we have been volunteering at the Orange County Animal Shelter in Virginia. Through our volunteer work we learned some of the longest residents of the shelter are pit bulls or other “bully breeds”. We lovingly call them the “misfits” because they have health or behavioral challenges that prevent them from being adopted. These are the dogs we want to help because our Ziggy dog could have very easily been one of these dogs had we not been there for him. In order to help, we plan to support these dogs medically, socially, and behaviorally so they can be ready for adoption into their forever homes. The goal of the Ziggy Dog Fund is to help reduce the number of pit bulls in shelters.
Fundraising: The Ziggy Dog Fund is not yet a registered 501(c)3, but we are in the process of filing the necessary paperwork. All funds raised via GoFundMe will go directly to shelter dogs needing to be adopted.
Operation Dezal: We have used personal funds to fund Operation Dezal. Dezal is the very first recipient of The Ziggy Dog Fund sponsorship award. Dezal was a resident at the Orange County Animal Shelter for over a year and a half. Dezal is currently in “boot camp” with certified dog trainer, Alex Everhart, who is teaching him socialization and manners to increase his chances of being adopted by a loving family.
