Zimbabwe Freedom Fund
Donation protected
Zimbabwean Citizens declared a mass stayaway from 14-16 January 2019 in protest to the over 250% increase in fuel prices without commensurate safety nets for the people. The government responded with a massive police and military operation that has left people displaced, missing, injured and traumatized. This fund seeks to help those affected get food, medical and shelter relief during this period.
HOW WILL THE FUNDS BE DISBURSED
We have a network of activists in the country who are taking stock of the situation. We will work with them and other non-governmental organizations to ensure that food & other needs are availed to victims. So far we have identified volunteers to deliver food to those that have been caught up in the dragnet detentions around Harare including Matapi, Remand and Harare Central.
The money will be withdrawn and sent via Western Union or World Remit and sent to OneChurch which has been instrumental in organizing for relief.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE SPENT
At this point we are looking to provide food and medical supplies like bandages, detergents and disinfectants to those who are are displaced or in detention.
WHEN WILL THE MONEY BE SENT
The situation is dire, there is also a lot of uncertainty given the blackout that the government has instituted. We will be sending the donations as soon as available from this platform.
WHO ARE WE?
I (Freeman Chari) am an activist from Zimbabwe based in United States. I am volunteering here as a Citizen that has also been pushing for change in Zimbabwe. I have worked with many civic organizations in Zimbabwe. I will be coordinating the team of fundraisers & volunteers. I have run similar campaigns in response to similar circumstances in the country. I will be giving updates through Facebook, GoFundMe and Twitter and as usual I will try to be as transparent as I can be without compromising the safety of the folks we are trying to help.
