Zion Needs A Boiler!

Zion United Church on Main St. Moose Jaw has been here for many events in the lives of generations of Moose Javians.  It is an important part of Moose Jaw’s, Saskatchewan’s and Western Canada’s architectural heritage.  Today the building faces a major challenge.   The old boiler in Zion must be replaced.  Repairs are no longer viable and the replacement cost will be near $100,000.

Today the congregation of Zion Church is reaching out to the community to invite support to help maintain this heritage building that has been part the life of Moose Jaw for more than 100 years.  Your gift, small or large, will go directly to replacing the boiler to preserve the Zion Church building as a community resource for today and tomorrow.

Over the decades, thousands have gathered in Zion for Rotary Carol Festivals,  or for Music and Band Festivals.  Zion’s historic Casevant pipe organ and the outstanding acoustics of the sanctuary have made the building an exceptional venue for concerts, musicals, dramas and performances.  The church has always opened its doors to the city and district for community events, community organizations, young people and seniors.  And thousands have gathered for weddings, for baptisms, for worship, or to mourn the loss of loved ones under the dome in Zion’s stately sanctuary.  It is a church in the heart and at the heart of our City and district.

If you are able to help in this campaign to replace the boiler, we thank you in advance!  All of your gifts will receive a charitable tax-credit receipt.  With the support of our congregation and the community, we believe we can meet the challenge, replace the boiler and see this treasured heritage building continue to be a welcoming place of worship and community gathering in the heart of Moose Jaw.

(To learn more about the history of this magnificent building and its life in the community, you can view the 17 minute video below.  The video was produced in 2014 and much of the restoration work described in Part 5 has been accomplished by the congregation.)
