Zion's Army

Zion Joe Sarmiento was born on June 15, 2021 to Josh & Bobbi Sarmiento. He was born with down syndrome and a severe heart defect which would require heart surgery. The plan was to get him as close to 4 months old as possible to do the surgery. Zion ended up spending 40 days in NICU before being released to strict care at home. After a couple of weeks, he was then admitted to Cardiac ICU after a routine follow up appointment with his cardiologist. Zion spent another 7-10 days in the hospital at which time they scheduled his surgery for right at the 3 month mark. They were able to go back home for a few weeks and continue his strict regimen of care until the surgery date.

On September 20, 2021, Zion had complete av canal open heart surgery to fix the hole(s) in his heart. This included fixing a valve on the left side. He came out of surgery on life support because his heart was not functioning the way it needed to. It was discovered that the valve had come a part. He ended up having 3 more open heart surgeries in a 5 day span of time, the last of which was on Saturday, September 25th. Zion is still on life support. They are waiting for his heart to pump and beat correctly.

The purpose in this GoFundMe is to help with expenses. Josh & Bobbi have to travel an hour and a half each way, each day, to be with Zion. Food and gas are very expensive, not to mention all the medical expenses that will soon follow. Bobbi's Family Medical Leave time ran out right before the surgery and they could not hold her job for her. So on top of all of this they have lost an income.
