Tommy the Clown - #SaveOurHeroes
Donation protected
For those who may not be aware, Tommy the Clown’s work spans nearly 3 decades dating back to the 1992 L.A Riots which resemble today’s social unrest. At the time, Tommy brought relief and healing as he hopped out of his legendary 5.0 Mustang and started dancing wearing a clown suit. This would eventually lead to the birth of the L.A clown movement and the dance style known as "krumping". As a result, Tommy opened a dance academy that served as a performance arts hub and safe space for more than 400 youth in South Central.
Unfortunately, the dance academy will be closing its doors in two weeks due to the impact of COVID - 19. The implementation of social restriction this summer has prevented Tommy from performing at birthday events, the proceeds of which cover the rent and utilities of the dance academy. Without this art center, South Central loses an important location that will serve as a creative space for inner-city children after the quarantine is lifted.
By donating to the academy, we’ll maintain a legacy that has stood for nearly 30 years and served as a creative solution to issues in black and brown communities across Los Angeles. All financial proceeds will go directly to the Tommy the Clown Foundation and cover the academy’s rental payment. For those who plan to donate or share this GoFundme, words cannot express the positive impact of your actions and willingness to save youth organizations in inner cities.
