Molly Needs Our Help

If you have never heard of PSP, neither had I until my friend, Molly McGraw, was given this diagnosis after several years of trying to discover what was wrong with her. Why was she frequently falling, why was she having accidents one after the other while driving, why was she feeling so different? The answer was Progressive Supranuclear Palsy or PSP which is a neurodegenerative disorder that has no known cause or cure and only effects 5-6 people out of every 100,000.

Molly was an attorney living in Saint Francisville, LA when she started showing symptoms. She was an active church member of Grace Episcopal Church serving on the alter guild. She also served as president of the Friends of the Library non-profit organization for our local library and a volunteer with the West Feliciana Animal Humane Society. But all of her good works came to an end with the onset Od PSP.

In November 2020 Molly’s doctor recommended she sell her home and move into an independent living facility, which she did. Just one year later he recommended she move into assisted living. Just four months later she had to move into a full nursing care facility.

At this time Molly can no longer walk, feed herself, or attend to her daily personal care. Her eyesight is limited at best. She can still talk but has an extended processing time so her responses are slow in coming. But her mind and memory are still very sharp. She loves company and four of her friends from Saint Francisville along with her former husband all visit her regularly and assist with her feeding.

In March a care giver named Verna was hired to give her the extra time and attention needed. Verna has been a godsend providing Molly with love, company, and the care she needs.

Unfortunately, because Molly was too young for Medicare she had to use her own resources, including the proceeds from the sale of her house, to pay for her care. Now her funds have run out. All of us who try and help her through this difficult time believe she needs the extra care and attention that Verna provides. For this reason we are asking that you donate to this fund to pay Verna I order to better help Molly.
