Support for Carmilla's Children in Tragic Times

Carmilla Nieves, age 39, passed away unexpectedly and tragically on June 21st, 2024. Her 20-year-old daughter received a call from Bayonet Point hospital, while she was taking care of a resident at a nursing home, that her mother was in a fatal car accident at 6:30 in the evening. Carmilla was on her way to pick up dinner with her significant other when she was T-boned during a U-turn. Per clinicians, Carmilla was conscious when they retrieved her from the scene of the accident but had no feeling at all. The clinicians that were caring for her gave her 28 pints of blood in hopes to stabilize her enough to find the source of bleeding, but they were unsuccessful.

Carmilla was kind and always willing to help anyone in need. Her smile lit up the room. She worked long hours to support her children. She was a phenomenal caregiver and took care of her patients as if they were her own family. Carmilla’s 16-year-old son Jacob and 20-year-old daughter Lexi are devastated by this sudden and tragic loss.
