I am writing this post to share the story of a man named Mike, whom I had the pleasure of calling my friend, as did many others.
Mike was a charismatic character, always seeming to smile and laugh despite the struggles he faced in life.
For many years, Mike slept rough, yet many people wouldn't have known this because he never begged and always found places to sleep where he wouldn't be seen and where he felt safe. He was a proud man and a father who didn't want people to worry about him.
Mike's story truly touches my heart because he always made everyone smile and laugh and was kind to anyone he met, despite having his life in one bag and sleeping at Topps Tiles without showing resentment towards a world that had been so cruel to him—something I cannot comprehend.
I hope in my life I can become half the person Mike was. He was strong, kind, and caring; he never gave up on life or living despite his circumstances. He kept going, and his story should be told as it inspires me and should inspire others facing hardships in their lives.
Sadly, Mike lost his life on the 13th of October. I plead for the community and the support of friends to help the family give Mike the send-off he deserves, as the thought of him not being celebrated truly breaks my heart. So please, anything you can spare to donate would be greatly appreciated.
Mike's funeral is on the 21st at the home church on Torwood Street. The family has requested royal blue attire if possible. Updates on the wake will follow.
Thank you for your time reading this.
