Zoe Gardner-Lawson's Medical Fund

Zoe is just 36 years old—a loving wife to Sam and a devoted mum to three little ones (a 5-year-old son and 1-year-old twins). In September, her world shattered when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer carrying the aggressive BRAF v600 (MSS) mutation. She’s now facing treatments that, while standard in many countries, are not covered by the NHS. These additional therapies, alongside surgery and chemo, could significantly improve her prospects, but the mounting costs are significant.

Despite the intensity of her battle, Zoe remains positive and determined to defy the odds and be there for her family. But she can’t do it alone. We—her family and friends—are asking for your help to fund the treatments, supplements, and extra childcare she needs. Together, we can lift some of the financial weight off Zoe’s shoulders so she can focus on what really matters: fighting cancer and being with her family.

Zoe’s Story: A Rapid Descent into the Unknown
  • Late August: Zoe was in severe pain, repeatedly told she had a UTI. Multiple rounds of antibiotics brought no relief, and her health quickly deteriorated.
  • September 24: A scan revealed a perforation of the bowel, raising alarm bells.
  • September 30: An MRI at the Cleveland Clinic confirmed Stage 4 bowel cancer—already spreading to her lymph nodes and liver.
  • October 3: Zoe underwent major surgery to remove the primary tumor and affected areas. She now lives with a stoma and is adjusting to her new reality.
  • November 7: Began chemotherapy (FolFox + Avastin).
  • November 19: DNA analysis from California identified the BRAF v600 (MSS) mutation—a particularly aggressive variant that doesn’t respond as well to standard treatments.
  • November 21: Chemo was intensified to Folfoxiri + Avastin to attack this aggressive mutation, meaning more severe side effects

Zoe’s next big test is at the end of January, when scans will show how well the new chemo has worked. If the cancer has shrunk enough, the hope is another surgery to remove what remains in her liver and lymph nodes.

Why Zoe Needs Extra Support

1. Specialist Treatments & Supplements
Some of these such as IV Vitamin C, Mistletoe, Oncothernia (similar to radiation) and others are standard in countries like Germany and Switzerland but aren’t funded by the NHS. They give Zoe a better shot at controlling this aggressive cancer and improving her overall prognosis. However, combined treatments cost thousands of pounds a month.

2. Additional Childcare & Daily Living Costs
Zoe’s demanding treatment schedule leaves her unable to care for three young children around the clock. With Sam being self-employed and often having to work evenings and weekends, Zoe needs additional childcare and this, combined with the usual bills, is causing a heavier financial strain.

3. Emotional and Physical Recovery
Stress about money makes an already difficult situation even harder. We want Zoe to focus on getting better, not fighting debt.
