Zoe's Journey
Donation protected
On June 10th, 2020, Zoe was diagnosed with DIPG, or diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a type of brain tumor in an area of the brainstem known as the pons. The name diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma describes how the tumor grows, where it is found, and what kind of cells give rise to the tumor. DIPG is a rare an inoperable type of brain tumor. Searching for a cure is an active area of research all around the world. There are many clinical trials underway. A biopsy will not be performed due to risk factors such as hemorrhaging, and we feel that risk is too high. For now, radiation therapy will be the course of action as well as a new medicine known as ONC201 as an alternative to chemotherapy. This is less invasive for Zoe and carries fewer side effects in respects to the side effects followed by chemotherapy. Donations will be applied to Zoe's travel for radiation, hospital visits, and anything else Zoe will need during her path to recovery.
