Why Zoey Needs Your Help
Zoey has endured a mental and physical health crisis over the past year. After a long journey working with numerous healthcare practitioners, we’ve learned that cranial nerve damage (cranial neuropathy) is at the root of her severe sleep disorder. This neuropathy has also caused Zoey decades of previously unexplained chronic pain and disabling fatigue.
To return to vibrant health, Zoey requires a specialized and expensive form of therapy, and we’re reaching out for help with the expense.
What Happened
Few people know just how terrifying parts of the past year have been for us. The severity of Zoey’s sleep disorder quickly led to continuous states of fight or flight, resulting in a serious mental imbalance.
After several trips to the hospital Emergency Room, Zoey landed in the psychiatric ward. She became afraid of moving, sleeping, napping and even breathing and could not be alone or in small spaces.
Countless visits to alternative health practitioners and medical specialists resulted in a cupboard full of ineffective supplements and pharmaceuticals. None of the drugs improved Zoey’s symptoms, and we became increasingly fearful that there was no way to stop her decline.
After hitting rock bottom, we called for help, and our friends and family started to rally around us, visiting and staying with us so that Zoey wasn’t alone in the house while I was at work.
Zoey's Path Forward
Now, after months of seemingly endless medical consultations and therapy sessions, there’s some light at the end of the tunnel; we finally have a clear picture of what Zoey is dealing with.
The recovery began when Zoey’s therapist determined that Zoey was experiencing limbic system impairment (LSI), a maladaptive stress response in which the brain perceives danger and threat where it does not exist. In June of 2022, Zoey began to use the DNRS (Dynamic Neural Retraining System) protocol to reverse her LSI. DNRS is a self-directed practice that helps many people rewire brain-based chronic illness conditions. Her daily DNRS practice successfully got Zoey out of the danger zone. Hallelujah!
Zoey’s heroic dedication to DNRS (it’s a lot of work!) has helped pull her out of the severe depression and extreme panic attacks. Yet the sleep disorder itself has only improved marginally. Through a series of referrals, Zoey found Lois Laynee, an OroFacial Myologist and Cranial Sacral therapist in Arizona. It was a huge breakthrough to find Lois! After three sessions online, Zoey is already experiencing improvement.
Though she is still unable to sleep properly, Zoey can now calm her nervous system enough to feel more rested. After a year of being stuck at home, she is finally venturing into the community and even driving short distances. These are big wins, but there are still an estimated 18 months of sessions to recover from this debilitating condition.
Fundraising
Zoey has not worked for over a year and we've had mounting medical expenses. We’re starting this campaign to raise the necessary funds for Zoey to have the cranial nerve therapy she needs.
Even with DNRS, Zoey is still experiencing panic in her sleep, heart palpitations and difficulty breathing. Cranial Neurosequencing will correct the aberrant misfiring of cranial nerves, and regulate the opening and closing of her throat for breathing and swallowing.
The funds will cover:
- 18 months of cranial nerve therapy with Lois Laynee
- Travel expenses for out-of-town myofunctional dentistry treatments (in coordination with Lois Laynee's work).
- Home-care expenses
This therapy will allow Zoey to regain her independence and fully participate in life, including coaching voice, teaching workshops, leading women’s song circles, and writing and publishing her amazing songs! You can check out her website here.
Inspired by her journey and the promise of overcoming a complex and little-understood neurological condition, Zoey also now wishes to raise awareness about limbic sytem impairment, trauma and mental health.
We appreciate any financial contribution you can make at this time. Every amount helps.
With gratitude,
Reuben
