ZoZoBot Goes To Burning Man and Beyond...

Sabatom Studios is a krewe of big dreamers and big do‘ers. With our artists’ sweat equity and the support of generous grants and patrons, this tight-knit shop has been able to bring many of those dreams to life for the world to experience. Our team has met the challenge of running a working studio by exceeding what any of us could have accomplished alone, and we did it with love and gratitude for each other, our community and YOU.
After the successful maiden voyage of our 2023 sculpture, "Burden of the Beast," we are thrilled to announce that our new sculpture "Zozobot" is among the 2024 Honoraria projects going to Burning Man this year!
Burning Man funds about 50% of its Honoraria projects, so while building the artwork, we're also fundraising for the remainder of the budget.
ABOUT ZOZOBOT:
Zozobot gives form to the ideology that we must be held accountable for what we create and release into the world.
As creators of modern technology, we bear the responsibility of acting as both author and editor of our future’s moral compass. While Zozobot studies us through his microscope, we are reminded that technology is a child, modeling its behavior on our words and actions. He is our progeny, exploring the world, and we are the north star in his ethical sextant.
HOW CAN YOU HELP:
Donations will support our project in many ways, but namely:
- Materials: While we like to use reclaimed materials for much of our aesthetic choices, many of them are still purchased from local salvage stores and the scale of this piece requires for a good amount of structural materials (steel & lumber)
- Specialty Fabrication: We'll be doing 95% of our fabrication pro-bono and in-house at our studio in New Orleans, but will need to outsource several design elements that we don't (yet!) have the capacity to make ourselves.
- Transportation: Once all is said and done, this project will have traveled the equivalent of the distance from Key West to Alaska. Whether we like it or not, transportation needs account for 1/3 to 1/2 of our budget.
- Plans to go solar: Along with the Burning Man project, we have goals to reduce our carbon footprint & subsidize as much of our energy output with renewable resources. Please help us do that!
