Gus has been diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFD). This condition affects less than one in a million people in the United States every year and primarily affects children. The causes of the condition are largely unknown and, in Gus's case, the onset was rapid and severe. Gus has been bravely fighting respiratory failure, paralysis, and the inability to swallow or cough since his diagnosis and relocation to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. The medical community does not know what causes the condition and his doctors must work to manage the symptoms as Gus's body fights the swelling in his brainstem and the neurological impacts affecting his body. It is difficult to know how long his family will be traveling the 90 mile drive to where they and his doctors continue to fight alongside this fine young man. We are seeking donations to assist his family through Gus's hospital stay as well as for the continued treatment and rehabilitation Gus will need due to the neurological damage AFD has inflicted on his body. All donations received through this fund will go directly to the Morgan family for the support they need to provide for their son during his hospitalization as well as for the equipment and transportation costs they will incur in the future.
