Supporting Sarah’s ❤️ fight against MM.

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, acquaintances, and loved ones!

As many of you know, Sarah has been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer that affects white blood cells in the bone marrow. There is no cure, only treatment, which may be long and difficult.

I am writing this in hopes that we can come together in this time of need, to support a magnificent human being, who has been a loyal and dedicated presence to all who have had the pleasure of knowing her!

If you can pay it forward with even the price of one latte, please consider donating. Every bit helps.

She gives and gives and gives, with her love of helping people in need, as shown by her 10 years of work within the non-profit sector working with some of our communities most vulnerable citizens, her talents in the arts and music, and as a vibrant addition to the Moncton Market selling her beautiful jewelry creations for 25 years. She is a loving wife, daughter, sister, friend, and the best mama to her two beautiful fur babies. She has always been a beacon of light with the purest of hearts.

In February, Sarah had a slip & fall, hurting her ribs/back (the doctor thought she’d be fine, just needing some rest, warm baths and naproxen). After about a month, the rib area felt better but then her lower back started to really hurt. On March 17th, she had horrendous muscle spasms in her back, which she describes as the worst pain in her life. She was brought to the hospital by ambulance, waited in the waiting room for 3+ hours in a wheelchair (almost passing out from the pain) until finally hearing her name. Doctors discovered that she had a broken vertebrae (L1) and many lesions along her spine. After many scans, an MRI, blood tests, ultrasounds, X-rays, bone marrow extractions and biopsy, it became clear to the doctors that she not only had a fractured spine, but she also had cancer of the plasma cells known as Multiple Myeloma.

This is not necessarily a curable cancer but can be managed with medications and treatments. Chemo started on the day of her official diagnosis, March 22nd, and her spinal surgery took place on April 4th. In the meantime, she was on bed rest and doing her best to keep a positive attitude. Thanks to all the beautiful people in her life that stepped up to show their love and support at this time. She is forever grateful for the support and positive healing energy they gave her!

The day after the surgery, Sarah was able to walk short distances with the aid of a walker, and the nurses and doctors are all very impressed with her strength and determination! The surgeon explained that Sarah’s bones are quite brittle due to the MM but despite this, he was able to insert the metallic cage in her spine and secure it with 4 bolts two vertabrae up and 4 bolts two vertabrae down. He filled the bolts with cement and did some synthetic bone grafting for better stability.

Sarah will have a lengthy road to recovery, likely 4-6 months of chemotherapy as well as radiation treatments that will hopefully treat the cancer and at the same time, help to strengthen her bones and get her back to an active lifestyle. From there, she would be a candidate for stem cell treatment(s), an option that could greatly decrease the presence of cancer cells in her body. This game plan could take her away from her job as a Community Schools Coordinator at the Anglophone East School District, her jewlery business, Sarah Jayne Design, at the Moncton Market and from her family, for an undetermined amount of time.

There are still a lot of unknowns, but even in the face of all this, she is truly a force to be reckoned with. Your support and encouragement mean the world to her.
A huge thanks in advance for your help along the way!

More than anything, I want her to have the biggest army surrounding her, to help her fight this battle against cancer. ❤️
She is determined to harness all her badass warrior energy (and yours) and kick major ass in this battle.

Sarah and her loving wife, Denise, love and appreciate you all, VERY much❤️ xoxox.
