I'm Jax Elton (he/they), a young transgender activist and artist who recently had to move from San Diego to a small, transphobic town in the PNW. I will be trans stealth for the rest of my high school career (meaning, I will be presenting as the gender I identify as, but nobody at school will know that I am trans). I've only been at this new school for three months at this point, and being stealth is EXHAUSTING. I heard the t-slur within the first hour of the first day of school, among many worse things over the past few months. Getting top surgery will lessen my worries significantly. Because my chest isn't flat, I have to worry about my chest binding time (which maxes out from school every day), which limits a lot of the things I want to do. It also means I can't get a job to save up for my surgery, because that would be too much binding time. I also have to worry about potential assault surrounding my chest if someone were to find out that I'm trans -- while I understand this is a worst case scenario, it is still possible. I would be much more comfortable in this environment if I could get top surgery. I have been raising money via art commissions over on my Instagram account (@jax.outofthebox) for many months at this point and have raised around $700. My consult is scheduled for December 21st, and I'm hoping to get surgery in June or July of 2022.
