Jen has been having a rough go lately. She had a biopsy two weeks ago and now unfortunately has been admitted in Boston. The biopsy came back and her immune system is severely attacking her small intestine. She’s being admitted because they have to medically intervene. Ana has to stay out of work, and go back and forth to Boston.
*Update on our founder, Jen.*
I know you all have seen Jen pop up occasionally in photos, and I’ve received several messages asking for an update. Jen has always been transparent about her cancer journey, so I just wanted to fill you all in. Unfortunately, like many of our THPF warriors stories, cancer is not black and white. Jen is having several “bad days” to include nausea, pain, and vomiting. We have been to several doctor’s appointments, including trips to Boston. We are trying relentlessly to come up with a treatment plan that works best for Jen going forward. With that being said, the next step is a biopsy surgery, in which she’s on a cancellation list for. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later. She has scans, ultrasounds, and blood work (cancer markers) coming up. I will update our THPF family once we have a better update. For now we are hanging onto the good days, and trying to accept the bad days.
Jen is currently out of work, so I just ask for your patience during this time as we keep the foundation going while I work overtime, and with all else we have going on.
We currently have an Amazon wishlist up for the next seven hero packages, and we still plan on bringing Christmas to the families that are in need this year.
Jen has never had a problem keeping a smile on for all her THPF heroes. So bear with us. As always let’s keep all our warrior families in your thoughts and prayers. Jen will never stop fighting for you all. #noonefightsalone️
Update:
After a seven hour surgery, eight incisions, two anaphylaxis reactions to medication(s), a spinal catheter, and a week inpatient .. our founder, Jen, is home resting. Thank you all for the continued support, love, and prayers. She’s one day closer on her road to recovery. “No one fights alone”. ️✨
Keep sharing her story and keep her in her prayers.
Jen’s mission: “no one fights alone”
On August 14th 2023 at 2am Jen unexpectedly awoke in the middle of the night screaming..and after several seconds passed out. Jen’s wife immediately called 9-1-1 and she was rushed to the hospital. After being transported to three different hospitals for treatment, scans showed several large “cysts” and a severe case of endometriosis on Jen’s ovaries, one of which was leaking into her stomach. Jen was admitted for emergency surgery and remained in-patient for about a week. Jen underwent a lengthy recovery process at home and on August 30th was called in by her gynecologist. Unfortunately this was the visit Jen received the devastating news from her pathology report. What they believed was a cyst was in fact a tumor. Jen was immediately transferred to an ovarian cancer doctor.
In Jen fashion, not even an hour after she heard the news about her tumor, she hand delivered a “Hero Package” to a little fighter in Rhode Island. For those of you who don’t know, Jen is the founder of a 501(c)(3) non profit, The Hero Package Foundation, where she volunteers all her free time building and shipping hero “care” packages to kids battling cancer around the world. Even though Jen is now in her own battle she still continues to bring love and light to all the little superheroes battling around the world. Even an hour after her own diagnosis.
Jen’s recent scans have showed growth and the decision was made with her Ovarian Cancer Doctor to move forward with surgery on January 2nd. They will not only be removing the present tumor(s), but her ovaries, uterus and tubes. This is because the high possibility of tumor reoccurrence.
Jen is currently out of work and on a medication treatment plan at home leading up to surgery. Jen’s wife continues to work, however, will spend the majority of the month of January at home with Jen, as her primary care taker. Jen will have a lengthy recovery and will continue her 3 month scans post surgery as they prepare for the next steps on her road to recovery.
Despite all Jen has been through this year she continues to move forward for the little superheroes she helps on a daily basis. For anyone that knows Jen knows she will never complain or ask for help. So as Jen’s friend I am asking you all to donate to someone who has spent her whole life helping others as she continues on her road to recovery. Let’s show Jen a little of her own mission, “no one fights alone”.
All donations will go towards Jen’s medical bills and recovery process.
