Want to join us in making a difference? We, the members of the Alpha Phi chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha, are raising money to benefit Chicago Freedom School, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
More information about Chicago Freedom School: The mission of the Chicago Freedom School is to build intergenerational partnerships and facilitate programming for young people of color while offering training to individuals and organizations committed to movement building. CFS is also the fiscal sponsor for Project Nia, Chicago Desi Youth Rising and Liberation Library. CFS offers a variety of resources for young people ages 14-21, helping them build knowledge in civic engagement, leadership, and social justice.
On Saturday, Chicago Freedom School opened their downtown office doors to provide shelter, food, and support to protesters.
We, the members of the Alpha Phi chapter of ZTA, are asking the Northwestern community and our friends and family to give to CFS, an organization doing important work in the Chicago community and in the Black community, especially during this time.
This is only part of our commitment to be anti-racist. We recognize action is long overdue, and will consistently remain committed to addressing anti-Blackness and racism not only in our external communities but internally as well.
We will increase the frequency and depth of our discussions regarding diversity and inclusion, and endure that we educate each of our members on how we can use our privilege to better support members of the Black community both on campus and within Greek organizations, where racism has long existed.
To be clear: our commitment to ending racism and anti-blackness does not end with this fundraiser. We wish to avoid allyship that is purely performative. Building up and learning about our position as allies will take many forms, which will be executed internally, consistently, and thoroughly.
