Helping the Hesters

Randy Hester is a Nova Scotia treasure.  He is humble and humorous. Drawing on a deep well of creativity, his art, seen in many churches, centres, and homes, conveys deep peace, majesty, and beauty and enriches all of our lives.  In 2011, Randy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.  He has been unable to work for some time, and his health and home care expenses continue to increase. 
 
His wife, Jane has given her heart and her life to The Shambhala School, providing a safe and warm learning place and inspiring genuine confidence in hundreds of students and mentoring many teachers.  Outrageous, bold and playful, patient, forbearing, honest and genuine, Jane began her teaching career at age 21.  With so much experience under her belt, she took a leap and became an inspired and dedicated founder of the Shambhala School in Halifax in 1993, and has continued to teach there at significant financial sacrifice.
 
As Randy’s Parkinson’s progresses, Jane and Randy are faced with mounting economic challenges. As his needs at home increased, Jane found it necessary to cut back on her work at the school. Not only using western allopathic medications, Randy has chosen to use naturopathic medicines not covered by any insurance.  While he has been able to keep up his spirits, his activities have lessened and he continues to need help with his daily life.
