Debbie’s wishes - Ashgate Hospice fundraiser

Hello everyone,

We are heartbroken to say that our Mum, Debbie, passed away at 5am on Monday 6th March 2023. Mum left the world peacefully and with her closest family by her side.

Those who knew our Mum Debbie, knew that she was a strong, brave, fierce and incomparably glamorous woman, whose life was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with a terminal illness in July 2022.

Mum suffered with a type of brain tumour called a meningioma. The original diagnosis happened in 2013 and between then and July 2022, Mum underwent a series of invasive operations to remove the tumours. In July 2022, we were devastated to hear that unfortunately, the brain tumour had become too aggressive to continue medical treatment.

At the beginning of February 2023, Mum was admitted in to Ashgate Hospice where she lived out the remainder of her days.

For those who aren’t familiar with Ashgate Hospice, they are a not for profit charitable organisation based in Chesterfield, who provide excellent palliative and end-of-life care for patients in North East Derbyshire and beyond.

Ashgate ensure that all patients are well informed, supported and pain free when battling their individual end of life illness. Last year, they provided care for 1,647 people at their homes, 363 patients on their Inpatient Unit and a further 585 people with counselling and bereavement support.

Our family can not thank the staff at Ashgate Hospice enough for everything they have done not only for our Mum, but also for us. They provided compassionate, diligent care and even in our darkest days, they put a smile on our faces, and more importantly, on our Mum’s face too.

We appreciate that times are tough, but even just a small donation of a few pounds will go a long way to ensuring the hospice can continue to provide similar care to others who are in need, just as they did for our Mum.

Our Mum is our hero and we will all be lost with out her. She was loved so much by so many. We will all make certain that her memory lives on.

We truly cannot thank the staff at Ashgate Hospice enough for what they have done and hopefully, this will go some way to showing our appreciation.
