Zuko the Frenchie Get Life Saving Surgery

UPDATE 11/3: We have been able to buy Zuko more time and are keeping him comfortable. We still don't know how much more time we have exactly. Thank you so much for everyone who has donated, shared the link, or has the taken the time to share well wishes. My family really appreciates it.

Hello,

My name is Jenessa and I have a family french bulldog named Zuko. On 11/1 Zuko was taken to the vet because he was vomiting and was unable to process food. After receiving a preliminary diagnosis from the vet, we were told that Zuko could potentially have something obstructing his esophagus and would be unable to pass food. We were then referred to go for additional testing at UC Davis Vet Hospital.

After many hours later and thousands of dollars later, we have been told that Zuko needs a CT scan to properly diagnose what is going on internally and it is guaranteed that he will need surgery to correct the issue. The total cost of the CT scan, surgery, hospital fees, etc. is upwards of $15,000. Unfortunately this is not money that my family and I have to be able to afford such a sudden and costly expense.

Zuko is the first dog that my family and I have owned. During the pandemic I moved back to my family's home and shortly after, my dad decided to get his dream dog since we were kids - a french bulldog. My dad would always talk about the breed and always said that he would own one someday. So you can imagine how exciting it was to finally get to raise a dog and the breed that we've been talking about for years. As a family we knew the health risks that having a french bulldog would entail and were always very careful to monitor his behavior as well as prevent issues from happening to him at a young age. We got Zuko in October 2020 and it is now November 2023... we just celebrated his 3rd birthday in August. As of 10/31 he was strong, happy, and what seemed like... healthy. It is heartbreaking that although we've tried our hardest to keep him healthy - this was a health issue that no one could have anticipated.

I am humbly asking for any donations to help pay for the cost of Zuko's surgery. He has less than 36 hours, if not sooner, before we have to decide to euthanize him.
