Hey y’all! I’m Suni. My pronouns are they/them, and for a long time, I've known my purpose is to build community.
Six months after college, I made my Broadway debut in Hamilton. After debuting four roles in New York and falling in love, my partner and I moved together when I joined the Chicago company. While in Chicago, we adopted our dog daughter Roxi.
On March 5th, our little family moved once more to Los Angeles to open Hamilton at The Pantages. On March 12th Covid-19 brought the entire theater industry to a halt; I’ve been collecting unemployment ever since.
Following the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement during the summer of 2020, there’s been an outpouring of support for Black-owned businesses.
When I looked into black-owned coffee shops in my new neighborhood, West Hollywood, I was shocked that Black Book LA cited zero—yes, zero.
That brings us to Auntie's.
For a long time, I have known my greater purpose is to build community. To collect loved ones in each of these cities, and in return, leave a piece of my heart there. Auntie's will be the center of my LA community.
Auntie's will be more than just the only coffee shop / Café of its kind. It will be a space that celebrates Black artists, Black thinkers, and Black musicians. It will be a space that is equipped to grow with me as my community grows.
