Cochlear Implant Surgery

Hi, my name is Bianca Rodway and I created this fundraiser for my upcoming Cochlear Implant Surgery on May 4th (6 days away!).

For those of you not familiar with what a Cochlear Implant is, a C.I. is a surgically implanted medical device that helps adults with profound hearing loss. It’s designed to replace the function of healthy sensory cells in the inner ear and restore access to the sounds an individual is missing. It provides overall sound clarity.

I was born with hearing loss, specifically Sensorineural hearing loss. My inner ear or hearing nerve does not work properly. While this hearing loss has been somewhat manageable throughout most of my life, in the last 8 years, my hearing has deteriorated profoundly leaving me with no hearing in both ears. It has dramatically impacted the quality of my daily life.

It’s increasingly difficult to understand conversations with friends, family, and people in general. I currently rely on reading lips which can cause extreme mental fatigue and yet that is still not enough to get by. I’m missing out on music and what's going on in my surroundings. I’m missing out on job opportunities due to this physical limitation. But above all else, I’m missing out on having quality conversations with my Son. While he is so patient with me and innovative in his communication skills, I wish he wouldn’t have to work so hard to communicate with me. I'm missing out on life and I feel I'm missing out on being the Mom my Son deserves.

I’m humbly asking for donations for a life-changing surgery— one that will give me my life back. While my insurance covers a large portion of the cost, the remaining fees are substantial. Donations will go towards medical expenses and a new hearing aid that will work synonymously with the cochlear implant. Any donations made over the goal will go towards travel expenses and recovery.
