Royal Parks Half Marathon for the National Tremor Foundation
Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of National Tremor Foundation and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.
I inherited my Essential Tremor. I didn’t pay much attention to it in my earlier years and it wasn’t until I was in my late 40’s that it became more obvious and pronounced. I consulted my GP and was diagnosed with Essential Tremor.
Over time the Tremor has got worse, but it is not yet at a point where it is causing too many challenges or difficulties, other than some social embarrassment. During lockdown I did some research and discovered the Essential Tremor Foundation that does a great job supporting people living with neurological tremors. I attended a few online meetings and this year attended the Annual Conference in Sheffield, where I met other people living with this condition, many of whom were facing far greater challenges than my own.
Some of the best advice I have received is to be open and up front with the condition. This, hopefully, will ensure that people see beyond the tremor. Essential Tremor is far more common than Parkinson's, but is often mistaken for it so it's good to clarify things, and also that it is not due to being extremely anxious or upset.
The NTF is playing a key role in offering information and advice and is actively promoting research and understanding into how best to support people with Tremors. That is why I am so keen to support them.
More information about National Tremor Foundation: The National Tremor Foundation (or NTF as we are known) is an organisation where we aim to provide help, support and advice to all those living with all forms of tremor irrespective of age.
