My sister, Crystal, received the news late May of this year, that she had Stage 2 Breast Cancer. Immediately, she went from one doctor appointment to the next, over several weeks, in order to create the master plan needed to treat her. On July 8th, she underwent a unilateral masectomy including the beginning phase of reconstruction, along with a secondary surgery to remove some questionable lymph nodes. The good news, is that the lymph nodes are clear, and it was determined that the cancer had not spread. A miracle!
Crystal will begin her chemotherapy treatments next week. She will have a total of 4 rounds of chemo, each round consisting of 3 treatments, each treatment being 3 weeks apart. Between chemo treatments and reconstruction, she will continue her journey to recover for a better part of a year.
The Tingstrom family has been blessed with amazing friends and family, who have all stepped up to help with prepared meals for a couple of weeks since the surgery. Each one of you is a blessing.
My fear is that this long healing process will take a toll not only on my sister emotionally, but on the family financially as well. I am hoping this helps to raise some well needed funds to allow my sister and her family to be a little less stressed while they are going through so much. It will help to pay for copays, prescriptions, medical appointments, as well as everyday living for her, and her family.
