Support Maria's Battle Against Cancer

Hi, my name is Kathy Reed. I live in Braselton, GA, and was born and raised in Buford, GA. I have a dear friend who I want to shower with some love in the form of prayer and financial help. Her name is Maria. She is 61 years old and lives in Sugar Hill, GA.

Four years ago, Maria walked into a doctor's office to find out why her voice was strained. She was told she had a nodule that could be removed simply and would not return. The doctor removed the nodule, Maria went home, and continued life with her husband.

A few months later, Maria returned to see the doctor because her voice was changing again and learned it was no big deal; remove this one and that should be the end of the situation.

Several months later, Maria found herself back at the doctor's office making preparations to remove a third nodule.

Maria decided to visit Emory and get a second opinion on her health. Emory informed her that if she wants to live, they need to do a tracheotomy immediately. She has stage 4 throat cancer. 1-2 days later, Maria was learning to adjust to a new way of life.

Maria started chemo and radiation to save her life. Maria was then told shortly after that her voice box needed to be removed. Maria prayed and asked GOD to help her with this decision and felt GOD tell her to keep her voice box.

Approximately 3 years later and many, many chemo and radiation treatments, infections, and visits to Emory, Maria went in for a normal 3-month scan to check on her progress only to be told her cancer had spread to her lungs. Cancer is now in both lungs and the tumors have grown and multiplied.

Maria has been approved for clinical trials which she is currently doing. The treatment is not helping the way Maria needs it to.

Wednesday morning of this week, Maria’s husband took her to the ER. Maria has more pain than she can bear. After several hours and testing, Maria learned she has a mass on her spine causing pain in her neck, spine, and ribs.

Maria's husband needs to be with her. She needs and wants him by her side right now, especially until she sees her oncologist at Emory on the 8th of October to learn more about the mass.

My heart hurts for both Maria and her husband. They need to be able to hold hands, support each other, laugh, and enjoy today without the worries of tomorrow.

I am sharing Maria’s story in hopes that if you are able to relieve a little financial stress from them for this season of their life, it would mean so much to them and me.
