Help Impacted Families of Police Violence come to Families United 4 Justice Network Gathering Conference in Oakland Ca!!!!!!

My name is Cephus “Uncle Bobby X" Johnson, Uncle of Oscar Grant, who was murdered on January 1, 2009, by Bart Police. I am one of the co-founders of Families United 4 Justice Network and co-founder of Love Not Blood Campaign. I am writing you on behalf of our family’s network membership participating in “The Families United 4 Justice Network Gathering Conference Project,” fiscally sponsored by Social Good, a 501c3 organization.

The mission of the Conference is for families impacted by police violence to expand their awareness through workshop presentations, build on their sense of healing and recovery by participating in the conference and grow their network base by meeting families from around the country. This year will be the second Families United 4 Justice Network Gathering Conference. In June 2017, we held our first Network Conference in Detroit, Michigan at Wayne State University with 51 families, concerned citizens, community organizers artist, legal service professionals, mental health providers and alternative healers, to collectively contribute to the discussion. Our network gathering was wonderful and highly successful. Families share the testimony of their experience. To find out more about our previous network gathering please visit our website.

During this network gathering taking place June 28th, 2018 – July 1st, 2018, approximately 75 families will participate. This conference will be for many of these families since the murder of their child there “firsts”. Many have not been traveled outside their home city since the murder of their child because they are unable to afford the cost of travel, especially since most have lost or quit their employment because of the mental trauma associated with a child murdered by police. Your donation is your opportunity to support an impacted family by sponsoring them to a healing and bonding conference that will transform them by donating $5, $10, $15, $20 or more.

The average cost per family member is $1,200!

The cost includes:

·       Round-trip tickets (their city – Oakland International Airport)

·       Charter (2) 15 seat Van Rental (pickup/drop-off)

·       Meals (3 meals per day for Friday and Saturday)

·       Accommodations (Thursday-Saturday) 3 days

·       2 Events/Entertainment/Excursions

Our Mission

Is to eliminate extrajudicial police killing; support and nurture victims families, change policing culture, effect policy changes that foster accountability and transparency and build a National political police accountability justice movement.

History

Due to the perceived need that families impacted by police violence should be supported rather than exploited and should ultimately be able to represent themselves, the Network was formed with the intent to connect families and hold space for them to assess their needs, support each other, share resources, work with mental health professionals, and organize together.
Over 70+ family members have joined FU4J Network; participating on the listserv, conference calls, meetings, conferences, panels, and events.
We envision that one day all the families will be empowered through organizing themselves rather than to have political figureheads and organizations misrepresent them.

Families take part in a variety of activities including:
• Addressing the shock
• Trauma
• Self-Care
• Alternative Healing Methods
• How to Deal with the Media
• Personal Investigation
• Autopsy Report
• Community Organizations
• Where to get Legal help
• Funeral Assistance
• Understanding the History of Police violence in America
