Remembering Carolyn Hill’s son Wakil Horton , aka Fat Daddy
(August 13, 1982– August 7, 2018)
Some of you know Carolyn Hill from the Crossroads Women's Center in Germantown and Women of Color in the Global Women's Strike. Tragically, Carolyn lost her middle son Wakil Horton, who was shot and killed on August 7. He was six days shy of his 36th birthday. He was loved by all, valued at his Italian Market jobs of 20 years, and he touched a lot of hearts.

Wakil Jabar Horton, a twin, was born on August 13, 1982 in Philadelphia PA to Carolyn Cynthia Hill and the late Willie Stanley Horton. The bigger of the twins, he was nicknamed Fat Daddy and it stuck with him his whole life.
Wakil went through the Philadelphia School system, including John Welsh and M H Stanton Elementary Schools, Gillespie Middle School and Thomas Edison High School. He did well in school, and he loved cooking for the teachers, and they loved his cooking and baking. He started working in the restaurant business at an early age, and had been working ever since: Walmart, Wegman’s, Captain Jesse’s Crabs, Giordano’s Fruit and Produce Market, Miss Tootsie’s Restaurant, and JJ Bootleggers Bar and Grill. He was a fixture at the Italian Market for over 20 years.
He was a loving and caring person. He never got mad, and kept a smile on his face. He was loved by all who knew him, valued at work and devoted to his family. He loved music, cooking, catering parties, his Loud, riding his bike, driving his car and going out.
He is survived by his mother Carolyn; his twin Halin, his oldest brother Jerome, his younger sister Ebony; his nieces Vernetta, Tyana, Sandra, Saharia, Nadira, Iadirah, Nilah, Amaya, Corkell, and Corey; his nephews Big Jerome, Little Jerome, Jamel, Sahir, Jaydon, and Omar; one sister-in-law Angel; his former partner Jovan Tucker; his aunts Barbara, Shawkia, Sherry, Sonia, Valerie, and special aunt Judy; his uncles Cecil, George, Jhirmack, Lester, Robert and Willie; his favorite cousin Kaheem; his great aunts Mary, Martha and Shirley; and a host of cousins, friends, and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his sister Tia and grandmothers Thelma and Viola and Great Uncles George and William.
