Feed the Hungry in Vrindavan, India
Donation protected
My name is Charles Davis and I live in Langley, British Columbia.
Three years ago, while traveling through India, I met Radhika. Radhika is a Canadian woman who fell in love with a city called Vrindavan. Radhika moved to Vrindavan and met the love of her life there. They now have 2 children and are doing well.
We have kept in contact and recently on social media, she was relating about how she had some money donated to help the hungry in her city of Vrindavan. It was $1000 Canadian Dollars and with this, her and her family and friends where able to buy enough food for 100 families to eat for 2 weeks.
After delivering the food to the 100 families she posted this on social media:
"Wow. I don't really have words to describe this experience.
I was filled with so much emotion and humbled deeply by the privilege my life has afforded me.
I am so grateful to be able to make a small difference during this time of great need because of the donations from so many of you
Within only a few hours we distributed 100 packages of staples from our home and then spent the rest of the day and well into the night turning away the steady steam that continued to knock at our gate, many pleading, I wept in a corner
My mom reminded me hunger has been an issue the world over for a very long time and while it's amplified by this pandemic I need to take comfort in the difference we made for those 100 families, I hear the truth in her words.
But.
I feel and I'm praying with your support, we can do more
For those who would like to donate to the next round of seva (service):
☆ For $10 (that's only 8 bucks for my American friends ) we can provide a family with staples for two weeks
☆For $20 approximately one month.
☆For $100 we can do a one day food distribution (a simple cooked meal) to a few hundred people.
☆Concerned about the many street animals that rely heavily on the leftovers provided from restaurants and party functions? For $5 we can put together something for the cows, dogs or even the monkeys. Your choice
*I know these times are hard on everyone, even the smallest donations can have a ripple effect and bc we are grassroots every cent will go towards helping those in need. We appreciate any amount you can offer."
I responded right away and as I did so, I was inspired to start this fundraiser.
Our goal is to raise at least $11,000. With this amount, we hope to feed over 2000 families for 2 weeks. That's correct, 2000 or more families.
Radhika and her family do this as service, Seva. They get no part of these moneys for themselves, as they are not in need of it. Besides the Go Fund Me service fees, everything you donate will go directly to feed people.
The moneys raised will go to buying bulk amounts of staples to be delivered to hungry families in Vrindavan, India.
Families will receive:
A mix of four essential spices, salt, oil, rice, sugar, chai, two different dals and 10kg bag of whole wheat flour.
I will personally monitoring the withdrawals which will go to a bank account here in Canada which has been set up by Robin Thompson, in Halifax, NS. Robin is a long time friend of Radhika's and the person who runs the small trust where the money for the first food came from. Robin and Radhika are old friends from when they both lived in Halifax.
I know Covid has been tough on us all, but I know that most of us have at least been able to eat. These people haven't been. Many have lost their sources of income because no one is traveling to India or Vrindavan now.
Please help us in feeding as many as we can. Let's take hunger away from their experience, at least for now and for as long as we can.
If all you can do is send $10, you can feed 1 family for 2 weeks, 2 WEEKS. Less than the price of a movie, which you can't go see right now anyhow.
Thank you for considering and much love to you.
