Taking Action Against Bike Theft
The plan is simple.
Step: 1
Get a Bike.
Anything over $1000 will result in grand larceny which is a felony. To assure a conviction we are going to try and aim for a $1500/$2000 bike.
-------------
Step: 2
Get 1 GPS / GSM tracking device
$160

This device will give us real time GPS location tracking and a realtime notification used in the event the bike is taken. The device is hidden in the bike frame and will be difficult to remove
-------------
Step: 3
Get Radio Frequency tracking devices.
Estimated$750:
Example of this type of technology.
http://pegtech.com/products/microtrac
This is a little more tricky to get but is basically the same tech that is used to track wildlife.
While the GPS will get us close to the general area the Radio Frequency tracker is used to lock on the exact location. This will serve as probable cause for the police to search to property. Also we will be able to place the Radio Frequency tags inside things like the bike tires or handel bars in the event the bike is parted.
-------------
Step: 4
Get Video and Audio surveillance devices.
Camers and transmitters : $40 each.
Reciver: $40 each.
Will be good for identifying the criminal.
-------------
Step: 5
Place the bait bike in a undisclosed area and wait with some friends who will be usefull as witnesses. With a little patience the bike gets stolen and with a little coordination with the local Portland Police department we will use the tracking devices to follow and apprehend the criminal.
-------------
Step: 6
Do it all over again. :)
I will volunteer at least 1 night a week for as long as it takes to start and see meaningful change in our area.
