A Recovery Fundraiser for Oshin

Donation protected
This is Oshin.

He's about to turn six years old.

Two weeks ago Oshin was playing at Kindergarten with his friends, making his Mum, Ange,  both smile and sigh in exhaustion, entertaining his older sisters, and waiting for fly in day when his FIFO Dad comes home.

When Oshin's Mum became worried that Oshin had vomited a couple of mornings in a row, she took him to get checked out. From there, a flurry of activity turned into the month from hell for Oshin and his close, beautiful family.

He has since had surgery on his brain to remove a tumour. Ange, Colin and their family and friends held their breath until yesterday, when the results came back.

Oshin does not have the benign tumour they were hoping for.

He had an aggressive, cancerous form of malignant brain tumour.

Oshin has been diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a fast growing, high grade and invasive tumour.

It's unusual for Medulloblastoma to spread outside the brain, but Oshin's has.

Oshin's tumour has spread outside his brain and into his spinal column. PMH is now sending Oshin's tumour to Memphis, USA, for further testing and more information on this particularly aggressive tumour.

Oshin now needs intensive chemotherapy, radiation and a prolonged stay at PMH.  He has already undergone an expensive MRI, surgery, and will, no doubt, be in need of further expensive tests and treatments.

While we appreciate that we live in a country where children are medically cared for at PMH, we know that the road to recovery for this family will be expensive and heart wrenching.

Plus, it's Christmas.

Oshin's Dad, Colin, has been granted leave to be with his son, daughters and his wife until Christmas. But then he needs to return to the mine site, or risk unpaid leave or the loss of his job.

It is our hope that our Perth community can pull together to make Oshin's Christmas a little easier for his family. So that they know that when Oshin starts fighting this terrifying disease and then, when he begins his recovery, their financial situation will not be devastating.

This is the kind of family that goes out of their way to help others. They're giving and compassionate and loving and important. We'd like to keep them together, but, if we can't, we'd like to see Ange not worry about finances while Colin is away and to have some funds to try treatments or pay for practical help for the family.

We have to believe that Oshin will come out with his little fists up and ready for a fight, and that his recovery will be full of the spark and humour that he himself is.

Please help, if you can. Every dollar will count.
