Fight Global Foodborne Disease
Donation protected
Battling foodborne illness, educating children, and ensuring schools provide safe food.
The Problem
Foodborne illness is a major public health issue. According to the World Health Organization, 420,000 people die as a result of eating contaminated food every year. Children are especially vulnerable, (WHO citation here.)

How are we spending your donation?
We need funds to supply schools in Latin America with soap and paper towels so children can properly wash their hands and keep themselves clean.
The funds will pay for soap, paper towels, and training cafeteria workers at schools along with ensuring the cafeterias are providing safe food to the school children.
We need your help to enable us to create awareness of the need to change the culture of food safety in Latin America.
Why Cocina Verify?
Many people think foodborne illness is inevitable while traveling abroad—but is it really?
The reality is that many countries do not have strict regulations or enforcement surrounding food preparation. Therefore, many small restaurants do not have access to food safety education and tools that may only be available to international chain restaurants.
Allan Daly was literally sick of the situation after falling ill five out of the seven times he visited Latin America from eating contaminated food. He then had a brilliant idea. Why not create one standard of food safety for restaurants to follow?
And so Cocina Verify was born.
Through our work in local restaurants, we realized that we needed to address food safety at the root - in young, school-aged children. It’s making sure these young children and the schools in which they learn, have the tools and knowledge necessary to keep themselves safe and learn valuable skills and information that will benefit them and their families for the rest of their lives.
We have already seen the benefits of training restaurant employees and seeing how they take this information back to their families. Positive behavioral changes have occurred which leads to safer food practices and decisions that can prevent many foodborne diseases from ruining lives.
We wanted to expand our reach to more than just restaurants. We began programs in local elementary schools to educate the youngest members of society.
Most foodborne illness is preventable if we enact change in our daily lives, but people need to know what changes to make. We need your help to provide more resources and training to schools in Latin America so they can function in the healthiest way possible. Help us make the world a safer place.
What We Do:
Cocina Verify is a socially-minded restaurant training and inspection program. In our school initiative, we will do the following:
• We educate children on the importance of health and hygiene
• We provide soap and paper towels so students have access to necessary hand-washing tools
• We train school cafeteria staff and inspect the school cafeterias free of charge
Where Are We?
We are currently operating in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Peru, and Dominican Republic.
Dreaming Big!
With your contribution, we can realize our dream of expanding our education outreach into more schools in the communities where we work. Together, we can ensure more school children in Latin America receive the health and hygiene tools and education they need to start healthy lives.
Ways You Can Help
• Donate!
• Share our gofundme campaign with everyone you know!
We will be so appreciative of your support in our worthwhile endeavor to ensure more school children in Latin America receive safe food at school and also have the health and hygiene necessities to stay happy and healthy well into the future.
