Flores Family - Harvey Relief Fund
Above is a picture our family (Kevin, Karina, Tomas, Maria, Yesenia and our puppies) taken this past Christmas.
We were all fortunate enough to survive Hurricane Harvey. But its flood waters completely destroyed our home, and most of our belongings inside of it.
Since returning from mandatory evacuation almost two weeks ago, our time and money has been consumed by cleanup efforts.
We've started tearing down walls, disinfecting what we could, throwing out waste and molding items, even ripping out the floors with help from family and friends. But much of what we have recovered has had to be disposed of. As you can see from the photos below, our home (located in the Melrose Park Neighbordhood of Houston) is inhabitable.
At this time, any help would mean the world to our family. We are in desperate need of short-term financial support.
We are still waiting to hear back from FEMA. Our insurance company is claiming that our flood insurance policy was voided. It is uncertain what, if anything, will be covered. We are continuing to fight, but we're finding this is a very slow, painful, and incredibly stressful process.
We know we will never be able to recover all of the family photos we lost in the flood waters. But we are hopeful that one day things will go back to normal. It is heartbreaking to know how difficult this will be; after Tropical Storm Allison, our home also received extensive damage. We were displaced for months, living in a FEMA provided trailer. Unfortunately this time around FEMA is not providing us the same resources.
Our goal is a rough estimate based on the most essential things we need at this time:
- Cleaning supplies: $7000
- Housing: $9600
- Clothes: $2000
- Food: $2400
- Pet Care: $2000
- Medical Bills: $9000
(our mom recently underwent major surgery to remove a tumor and is in need of hormonal treatments)
Thank you so much,
Flores Family
