Food Pantry Garden Project

Winter Springs Elementary’s Food Pantry is working on a project where the students can grow fruits and vegetables at school and the produce is sent home with our Red Bag Food Program kids. At WSE 79% of our families qualify for free or reduced lunch. With over 80 families participating in our food program, we would need a couple more gardens to be able to provide fresh food for everyone. Our garden club is interested in supporting our food pantry while learn new ways to garden. Tower Garden is a vertical, aeroponic growing system that allows you to grow up to 20 vegetables, herbs, and fruits in less than three square feet—indoors or out. With aeroponic systems, plants grow in air or a mist environment rather than soil. The more gardens we use, the more fresh food we can provide along with the canned goods they get.
