Feed LA Students During the Strike
The purpose of this gofundme page is to raise money for bagged lunches for our students during the strike.
Currently, 68% of the students at Thomas Starr King Middle School are on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. It is estimated that at least half of all students may not attend school during the teachers' strike, which begins on January 10th.
The teachers want to make sure that students have healthy food available to them during this teacher action. Bagged lunches will be made every day of the strike and will be available for families to pick up in front of the school in the morning or lunch. Curbside pick-up will be available to families to make it as easy as possible in ensuring our students are well-fed and healthy.
The money will be spent on
18 pack box of Uncrustable sandwiches
-Fruits
80 pack Welch’s fruit snacks
Kirkland Snack bars
Kirkland Water Bottles
The Los Angeles teacher's strike begins on Thursday, January 10th. There is no timeline for how long the strike will go on. If there are surplus food or money donations, everything will be donated to the local Ronald McDonald House.

My name is Joel Laguna
I am a 6th grade history teacher at Thomas Starr King Middle School in Los Angeles, CA.
I will be heading the team of teachers and community members who will be using the money to purchase the food. The students who we are buying food for are our students. We have been promoting the lunch program to students letting them know they do not have to worry about food security during the strike.
All funds will be used to purchase items from Costco and receipts will be itemized and public.
